Drum roll please! My DIY Valentine’s Card Party is finally here. Each year for as long as I’ve lived in Franklin, my sister Dana has hosted a DIY Valentine’s Card Party. She is to crafting what Beethoven was to composing. Genius. I love getting to watch her in action as she’s creating. She’s cool, calm and collected, all the while with a pensive look about her as she puts together creations of whimsy that leave people oooh-ing and aaah-ing. This year she was going to host two of these DIY card parties, but instead I took one on as a sort of “passing of the baton” is taking place with Dana moving to Australia this summer (read: this won’t be my last rodeo!).
In prep for the party, I needed to gather up all the supplies one would need to make a Valentine’s Day card. Once I had all of the supplies, I displayed them in cute ceramic bowls, cups and serving trays along the middle of the table so it served as a centerpiece while being functional as well. Here’s a simple list of the supplies I used (photos below):
- Plain white cards with envelopes
- Plain brown “paper bag” cards with envelopes
- Different colors of cardstock
- Scrapbook paper
- Decorative journaling cards (there are some fantastic ones from Becky Higgins’ Project Life at Hobby Lobby)
- Gluesticks
- Double-stick tape
- Scissors (including wavy-edge or scallop-edge scissors)
- Heart-shape hole punch
- Ribbon & bakers twine
- Stickers
- Stamps & stamp pads
- Pens
And of course in order to keep those creative juices pumping, I served a simple array of beverages in addition to some scrumptious chocolate-y treats, fudge-y paleo brownies from one of my girls, and yummy gluten-free sugar cookies made with love by my mama. Hosting a party that gives people an excuse to be together while serving as a creative outlet, is one of the best gifts you can give your friends. I think all of my guests had a splendid time, and their creativity was awesome to see in action. Can’t wait for next year!
{Thanks to my good friend Amy Conner for taking such awesome photos of this event!}
