diy shower favors

As a blogger, sometimes I feel like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music and you’re just coming along for the ride. “These are a few of my favorite things” plays in the background as I scribe about my favorite creations, gifts, events, food, etc. If I could dance while typing, you can believe I would. ;) Recently with all of the parties and showers I’ve been hosting (and there’s more to come here!), I’ve discovered that one of my favorite elements is that of the favor. For my wedding in 2012 (which you can checkout here), we stuffed little glassine bags full of mini dark chocolate chunks and placed a sweet label on them that had our names and the date (chocolate was the hubs’ idea, of course). I love the idea of giving guests something that isn’t just going to sit on a shelf or in a box or get given away to Goodwill one day, but rather, give them something yummy they can eat or useful for their home.

Thus this simple and inexpensive shower favor idea that I used for the last baby shower I helped to host (you can check out the festivities here). And, here’s all it took:

  • 1 scented tealight candle (I got a box of 24 for $7.99 at Target)
  • Fabric cut into 4″x4″ squares
  • Jute string

To begin, I simply took the tealight, wrapped it up in the fabric and then tied it securely with the jute string. Presto! A super cute, majorly easy shower gift for all to enjoy. We put them on each place setting and it really added to the decor as well.
