bathroom storage solution

Since being married it has occurred to me that I take up a lot more space than my husband. I use more hair product. I sleep with more pillows. I have more clothes. And the list goes on. When I moved in after our wedding (which, have I mentioned before that we are just in our 21st month of wedded blissfulness?), I was elated that we have a walk-in closet in the master bedroom. Since I had been living with my parents prior to marriage and using a coat-closet sized space for my clothes and belongings, a walk-in was like moving to the penthouse of a high-rise hotel. I thought I would surely only take up half the closet, if that! But after getting settled, my hubs graciously offered to give me a little more space. And then a little more. And then yet a little more. Needless to say, I currently take up about 75% of our closet. It’s not all clothes, mind you. Shoes, bags, purses, hats, scarves, belts… and, of course, clothes. Believe it or not, I actually love purging from time to time just to keep things tidy. Nonetheless, I just take up more space. Period.

The same be true for my morning routine. Being female, I obviously take more time than he does to get ready (about twice as long… at least… on a good hair day). After shampooing, conditioning, body-cleansing, face-washing, and shaving in the shower, then there’s cleaning my ears, blowing my nose, combing my damp hair, putting in first round hair product, applying face lotion, blowing dry and straightening my hair, using second and third rounds of hair product, and on to applying my foundation, pressed power, blush, eye brow liner, eye shadow (x2), eye liner and mascara. Thus the need for creative storage solutions for all that woman gettin’ ready gear!

Several years ago, I came across this awesome and amazing galvanized metal storage unit. I knew exactly what I was to do with it, too. It would become the new home for many of my morning routine accouterments. Perfect for cotton swabs, make-up, nail polish, and the like! I found mine at Ikea, but since they don’t carry them any longer, you can get your very own similar storage solution at my home away from home, Hobby Lobby (go grab this 40% coupon before you buy it!). Here’s a snapshot of how I’m using mine!
